Child Protection for the Autistic Child - A Resource
How to use this resource
If you have need of this site then you are, I think, most likely to be a parent/carer or a professional looking for information about child protection for autistic children. Finding information, should be very straight-forward. My experience as a parent of a child with am autism diagnosis in Care is that it is anything but. My hope is that this resource will help.
On each page there links to websites and 'open source' information organised by topic/question. I may get things wrong and comments are opinions, and opinions can and do differ, so please always double check information via a number of reliable sources. Be aware that not all sources of information are equally credible. See BYU (2017) Step-by-Step Guide & Research Rescue: Evaluating Credibility.
Many organisations have free telephone advice lines ( usually with limited opening hours ) and you are likely to get tailored advice about a specific issue by speaking to someone over the telephone and explaining about your and your child’s circumstances.
If you are subject to Care proceedings you are entitled to free legal representation and your solicitor will be able to give you advice regarding the options available to you. This website is not an alternative.
Never post confidential information e.g. telephone numbers, your real name, your local authority or information about a child that could lead to them being identified. Some websites allow you to edit and/or delete posts and you may want to do this if your/your child's circumstances change.
